Baseball Recap: Ripon Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Ripon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Winneconne Wolves on Thursday by a score of 3-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Coy DeVries was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Ripon is 2-1 when DeVries posts eight or more strikeouts, but 1-6 otherwise. DeVries was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

DeVries wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shay Otto, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was Otto's first of the season.

Ripon's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Winneconne, they dropped their record down to 3-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Ripon will welcome Waupun at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Winneconne, they will venture away from home to take on Weyauwega-Fremont at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Warhawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.25 runs per game on average), something the Wolves will no doubt try to take advantage of.
