Baseball Recap: Mineral County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Virginia City on Saturday, Mineral County came back down to earth. The Serpents lost 20-4 to the Smith Valley Bulldogs on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Serpents in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost nine in a row.

Chase Reeves put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Mineral County's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Smith Valley, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mineral County beat the Bulldogs by a score of 9-7 later that day.
