Preview: Copper Canyon Aztecs vs. Buckeye Hawks

Copper Canyon has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Buckeye Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Copper Canyon has insisted on making their lastfive contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-3 during that stretch of close contests.

Copper Canyon suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Kofa by a score of 40-37.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Bri'ann Felix, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Felix is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zalaya Dupre, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Copper Canyon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Buckeye waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They skirted past Estrella Foothills 62-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Buckeye has posted yet this season.

Copper Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Buckeye, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Copper Canyon took a serious blow against Buckeye in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 71-41. Can Copper Canyon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
