Preview: Sacred Heart Prep Gators vs. King's Academy Knights
Sacred Heart Prep is 8-2 against King's Academy since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Sacred Heart Prep Gators will head out on the road to take on the King's Academy Knights at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Sacred Heart Prep sitting on six straight victories and King's Academy on four.
In what's become a running theme this season, Sacred Heart Prep gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They breezed by Harker on the road to the tune of 76-26. With Sacred Heart Prep ahead 43-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Drew Wagner and TJ O'Brien were among the main playmakers for Sacred Heart Prep as the former scored 13 points and the latter scored 11 points along with five steals. Matthew Wendling was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Pinewood scored an imposing 56 points on Friday, King's Academy still came out on top. King's Academy took down Pinewood 74-56. Given King's Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Pinewood is ranked 599th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sacred Heart Prep's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for King's Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Sacred Heart Prep came up short against King's Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 53-49. Can Sacred Heart Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
