Basketball Game Preview: Chisholm Trail Academy Blazers vs. Covenant Classical Cavaliers

The Chisholm Trail Academy Blazers are taking a road trip to take on the Covenant Classical Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Chisholm Trail Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Highlands, but they still walked away with a 65-61 victory. Given Chisholm Trail Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 729th, while Highlands is ranked 1463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Covenant Classical hadn't done well against Christian Life Preparatory recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Covenant Classical pulled ahead with a 67-66 photo finish over Christian Life Preparatory.

Covenant Classical's win came from a few key players Chisholm Trail Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Matthew Bates, who posted 11 points. Ellis Mitchell was another key player, putting up ten points.

Covenant Classical has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points over those games. As for Chisholm Trail Academy, their record now sits at 19-10.

Chisholm Trail Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Covenant Classical when the teams last played back in December of 2020, sneaking past 58-56.
