Baseball Game Preview: Fort Dorchester Patriots vs. James Island Trojans

Fort Dorchester has won four straight games at home, while James Island has won four straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Patriots will welcome the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Fort Dorchester 2.8, James Island 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Fort Dorchester's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when Ashley Ridge hitters got past them. The Patriots came up short against the Swamp Foxes on Wednesday, falling 12-4. The loss was the Patriots' first of the season.

Meanwhile, James Island faced Summerville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Green Wave with a sharp 12-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.

James Island has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Fort Dorchester fell to 7-1.

Fort Dorchester skirted past James Island 7-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
