Preview: Grant Park Dragons vs. Milford Bearcats

The Grant Park Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Milford Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Grant Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.

Grant Park's 20-10 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They lost to Gardner-South Wilmington on the road by a decisive 46-27 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Grant Park in their matchups with Gardner-South Wilmington: they've now lost three in a row.

Kennedy Marcotte put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored ten points along with three steals and three blocks. That's the first time this season that she posted two or more blocks. Claire Sluis was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Milford strolled past South Newton with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 35-19.

Hunter Mowrey was her usual excellent self, scoring nine points along with 12 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kami Muehling, who scored nine points.

Grant Park's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Milford, they pushed their record up to 10-10 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Grant Park have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 21.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Milford struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 27.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Grant Park strolled past Milford in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 36-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grant Park since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
