Basketball Recap: Richard's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

Richard easily dispatched Loyola last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Richard Pioneers fell just short of the Powers Catholic Chargers by a score of 69-66 on Friday. The Pioneers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Chargers from their previous meeting back in January of 2020.

Andrew Caldwell was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 12 en route to 20 points and five rebounds for Powers Catholic. Caldwell's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dempsey Cull, who posted 15 points and eight rebounds.

Richard moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Powers Catholic, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Richard and Powers Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Richard (ranked 55th) will meet Cranbrook Kingswood (ranked 243rd) at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Similarly, Powers Catholic (ranked fifth) will meet Schoolcraft (ranked 50th) at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
