Westfield was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They skirted past the Gowanda Panthers 4-3. This was payback for the Wolverines, who suffered a 12-11 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Avery Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, Sydney Hotchkiss and Mackenzie Schumaker did most of the damage at the plate: Hotchkiss went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Schumaker went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Westfield is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Gowanda, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-7.

As of now, neither Westfield nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
