Basketball Recap: Alyssa Wollenzien's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Reed-Custer over Coal City

Reed-Custer suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the Coal City Coalers, falling 48-28. The Comets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Coalers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alyssa Wollenzien, who posted five points and six steals. Wollenzien is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan Toler, who had six points and seven rebounds.

Reed-Custer's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Coal City, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reed-Custer will welcome Lisle at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Coal City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Manteno at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Coal City sitting on five straight victories and Manteno on 15.
