Volleyball Recap: Ayersville Pilots vs. Wayne Trace Raiders
If Ayersville was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Antwerp last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ayersville Pilots fell just short of the Wayne Trace Raiders by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Pilots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Ayersville took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 17-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-10.
Wayne Trace's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caroline Winans led the charge by getting 35 digs and two aces. Winans is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in the last six games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Zartman, who had 14 digs and 30 assists.
Ayersville has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Wayne Trace, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
