Basketball Recap: Huntingtown Triumphs

Huntingtown hadn't done well against Great Mills recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, the Huntingtown Hurricanes made off with a 54-53 victory over the Great Mills Hornets. The win was nothing new for the Hurricanes as they're now sitting on four straight.

Huntingtown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eva Powell out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Powell is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sofia Hoetzlein-Sirman, who went 6 of 11 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Huntingtown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive matchups.

As for Great Mills, they will challenge Patuxent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Great Mills is facing Patuxent at the right time seeing as Patuxent is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
