Basketball Recap: Trego Comes Up Short

Trego played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Decatur Community Red Devils, falling 50-20. The Golden Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-11.

Madi Daubert was Trego's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Bailey Ziegler held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. Trista Smith took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.

Decatur Community's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jenna Fortin, who posted 13 points along with six boards and five steals. That's the most steals Fortin has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsie Larson, who earned 13 points and eight rebounds.

Trego dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Decatur Community, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Trego will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rawlins County at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Rawlins County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. Decatur Community also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Logan on January 3, 2025.
