Football Recap: St. John the Baptist Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Maurice Scott and Kalen Percer-Hogue

St. John the Baptist might've scored the first points on Saturday, but it was Kellenberg Memorial who claimed the real prize. The Cougars took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Firebirds. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Firebirds recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, St. John the Baptist had strong showings from Kalen Percer-Hogue, who gained 225 total yards and a touchdown, and Maurice Scott, who rushed for 105 yards on only 14 carries.

Kellenberg Memorial found their leader in sophomore Brendan Barkley, who rushed for 101 yards and two TDs.

St. John the Baptist now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Kellenberg Memorial, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

St. John the Baptist will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cardinal Spellman at 1:30 p.m. on the 11th. As for Kellenberg Memorial, they will face off against St. Joseph-by-the-Sea at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
