MaxPreps 2014-15 Maine preseason boys basketball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. Portland
Head coach: Joe Russo
2013-14 finish: 22-1; Class A champion

Portland knocked off Hampden 54-50 to capture the Class A state title last year, and it has the pieces in place for another run. Guard Stephen Alex is the team's top returning scorer. He'll assume a larger role in the offense with the graduation of Matt Talbot and Justin Zukowski. Jordan Talbot, a 6-3 quarterback for the school's football team, will provide a physical presence down low.

2. Houlton
Head coach: Robert Moran
2013-14 finish: 25-2; Class C champion



Committed to Bentley, Kyle Bouchard is perhaps the state's best player and back for his senior season at Houlton. He's a two-time all-state selection. Jake Condon and Christian Crane, an all-state honorable mention selection, also return.

3. Bonny Eagle (Standish)
Head coach: Phil Bourassa
2013-14 finish: 21-4

The 2014 rendition of Bonny Eagle will be without all-state pick and Portland Press Herald Player of the Year Dustin Cole, but Phil Bourassa's squad will still be one of the state's best. Six-foot-2 senior Benjamin Malloy, who doubles as a receiver on the football field, will be one of the team's go-to players on a roster that is deep with players ready to step up.

4. Falmouth
Head coach: Dave Halligan
2013-14 finish: 26-2



Six-foot-5 forward Jack Simonds returns to power Falmouth for the 2014-15 season. He's been a well-known fixture of the Maine hoops scene since earning all-state honors as a sophomore. Thomas Coyne and Collin Coyne, who saw time as a sophomore and freshman, respectively, last season, should see larger roles. Older brother Collin could be one of the state's top scorers.

5. Hodgdon
Head coach: Robert Smith
2013-14 finish: 20-3; Class D champion

Even with the transfer of 6-foot-5 senior Chris Hudson to a prep school, Hodgdon will be in the mix for another Class D crown. Keegan Gardner and Devin Quint will bring some experience to what was a young squad last year.
