Baseball Game Preview: Deer Valley Skyhawks vs. Thunderbird Titans

The Deer Valley Skyhawks will head out on the road to challenge the Thunderbird Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Deer Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Deer Valley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Estrella Foothills, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Deer Valley was the clear victor by a 10-1 margin over Estrella Foothills on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Skyhawks.

Deer Valley got a great performance from Carter Reitz as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Deer Valley is 3-1 when Reitz allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 5-7-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bryan Burnett, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Austin Whitley also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Deer Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Thunderbird earned a 6-1 victory over Goldwater on Monday.

Andrew Cohill was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hunter Donathan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

The win got Deer Valley back to even at 8-8-1. As for Thunderbird, their record now sits at 10-7.

Deer Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Thunderbird when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Deer Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
