Softball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Waterville Panthers

The Dirigo Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Waterville Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses dating back to last season for Dirigo and 11 for Waterville dating back to last season.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Dirigo nor Hall-Dale made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Cougars took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly three runs.

Meanwhile, Waterville lost 17-1 to Spruce Mountain on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly 16 runs.

Dirigo's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Waterville, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 0-3.

Dirigo took their win against Waterville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
