Basketball Recap: Thomas Hughes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Wayne Christian

Coastal Christian's and Wayne Christian's matchup on Thursday was close at halftime, but Coastal Christian turned on the heat in the second half with 37 points. The Coastal Christian Centurions put the hurt on the Wayne Christian Eagles with a sharp 65-43 win. For the Centurions, this counts as revenge for the 72-48 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coastal Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thomas Hughes, who posted 16 points. The dominant performance gave Hughes a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of George Robertson, who had 14 points.

The win made it two in a row for Coastal Christian and bumps their season record up to 3-13. As for Wayne Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coastal Christian will take on John Paul II Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wayne Christian, they will challenge Wayne Country Day at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wayne Country Day will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something Wayne Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
