Soccer Game Preview: Wakefield vs. George C. Marshall

The Wakefield Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the George C. Marshall Statesmen at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Wakefield will be strutting in after a win while George C. Marshall will be coming in after a loss.

Wakefield was handed a five-goal defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Yorktown. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Wakefield were the better team in the second half.

Erik Vasquez Ayala and Lohamba Okoko scored both of Wakefield's goals, bringing their combined season tally to three goals.

Meanwhile, George C. Marshall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 5-1 to Langley. The game was a 1-1 toss-up at halftime, but George C. Marshall couldn't quite close it out.

George C. Marshall's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6-2. As for Wakefield, their win bumped their record up to 5-2-2.

Wakefield took their victory against George C. Marshall in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
