Basketball Preview: Pinnacle Panthers vs. Monticello Buckaroo
Pinnacle is 2-8 against the Buckaroo since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Pinnacle Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Monticello Buckaroo at 5:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Pinnacle scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 80-65 win over Monument Valley. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Cole Barton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. Barton is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Dominick Vigil was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Monticello was able to grind out a solid win over the Bears on Thursday, taking the game 57-49. Given Monticello's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 129th in Utah, while the Bears are ranked 311th in Colorado), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pinnacle now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Monticello, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.
Pinnacle came up short against the Buckaroo in their previous meeting last Friday, falling 46-38. Can Pinnacle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
