Softball Game Preview: Walker Valley Mustangs vs. East Hamilton Hurricanes

The Walker Valley Mustangs will challenge the East Hamilton Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Walker Valley comes in on six and East Hamilton on seven.

Walker Valley's tournament run continued when they took on Ooltewah on Tuesday. The Mustangs walked away with a 6-1 win over the Owls.

Meanwhile, East Hamilton made easy work of Cleveland on Monday and carried off a 13-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Yulai Woodruff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Madilyn Evans was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jada Rutley, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

East Hamilton pushed their record up to 19-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Walker Valley, their record is now 30-8.

Walker Valley beat East Hamilton 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
