Softball Recap: High Point Christian Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

If High Point Christian Academy was feeling good fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Wesleyan Christian Academy on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars fell just short of the Weddington Warriors by a score of 5-4 on Saturday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Paisley Dixon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kerri Langfitt was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Those home runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madison Benson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

High Point Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Weddington, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-1.

Looking ahead, High Point Christian Academy will venture away from home to take on Gaston Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.08 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Weddington, they will take on South Caldwell in a tournament on Saturday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
