Basketball Recap: La Joya Community Skates Past Maryvale Prep with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Joya Community). They took their match on Monday with ease, bagging a 90-46 victory over the Maryvale Prep Matador. Given the Fighting Lobos' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Matador are ranked 307th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Isaiah Carter was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 26 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Hale, who posted ten points and six steals.

La Joya Community was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for La Joya Community and bumps their season record up to 7-3. As for Maryvale Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

The future could be bright for both La Joya Community and Maryvale Prep: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. La Joya Community will try to hand Thunderbird their sixth-straight loss when the two meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Maryvale Prep will try to hand Tonopah Valley their tenth-straight defeat when the two meet at 3:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025.
