Soccer Game Preview: Santa Clara vs. Villanova Prep

The Santa Clara Saints will head out on the road to challenge the Villanova Prep Wildcats at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Santa Clara lost 5-1 to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Villanova Prep's offense. They fell 2-0 to Coast Union on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 999th, while the Broncos are ranked 408th).

Villanova Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6-1. As for Santa Clara, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-6-1.

Santa Clara skirted past Villanova Prep 1-0 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Clara since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
