Baseball Recap: West Mesa Finds Home Field Redemption Against Moriarty

There's no place like home for West Mesa, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Moriarty Pintos 10-9 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since March 28, 2024.

Daniel Rodriguez and Matthew Rodriguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rodriguez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Matthew pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Furthermore, Daniel didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Rodriguez scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Matthew went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. The dominant performance gave Matthew a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Ayden Gonzales was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Scott Wilson, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

West Mesa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

West Mesa's record is now 5-6. As for Moriarty, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, West Mesa will square off against Del Norte at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Del Norte has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.33 runs per game on average), something West Mesa will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Moriarty, they have already played their next game, a 10-8 loss against Bernalillo on the 15th.
