Basketball Recap: Doherty Piles Up the Points Against Liberty

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Doherty's strategy against Liberty on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Doherty Spartans blew the Liberty Lancers out of the water with a 71-27 final score. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Kaity Driskell went supernova for Doherty, going 6-for-8 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, Driskell now owns an excellent 41.9% three-point shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Ramos, who posted ten points and six steals.

Doherty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Liberty still got an impressive performance from Emma Hill, who had eight points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Hill has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samira Gantt, who put up 13 points.

Doherty's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.1 points over those games. As for Liberty, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Doherty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-22 victory against Fountain-Fort Carson on the 15th. As for Liberty, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-25 defeat against Pueblo West on the 18th.
