Basketball Game Preview: Whitman Vikings vs. Damascus Hornets

The Whitman Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Damascus Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Whitman's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 contests.

Last Tuesday, Whitman didn't have too much trouble with Bethesda-Chevy Chase as they won 82-66. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Barons: they've now won three in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whitman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Evan Brown, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points. Another player making a difference was Max Williams, who posted 11 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Damascus lost to Magruder on the road by a 60-42 margin on Tuesday. The Hornets have struggled against the Colonels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Whitman's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.3 points over those games. As for Damascus, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Whitman beat Damascus 59-52 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whitman since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
