5A Front Range recap October 1, 2013

Poudre moved up to 79 from 106 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Front Range. The Impalas were able to move up by beating Rocky Mountain 21-13.

Fossil Ridge lost to Fort Collins 41-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mitchell Salmela threw for 180 yards in the loss.

Salmela was a passing and rushing force as Fossil Ridge fell to the Lambkins. Salmela's key target this week was Nigel Tilley, who caught 3 passes for 83 yards.

Ben Waddell was the best running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 104 yards as Mountain Range fell to Fort Collins. Teammate Gabe Gillespie added to the ground attack by rushing for 72 yards.

The Sabercats' Salmela and Nick Kravec led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Salmela has thrown for 866 yards this season, while Kravec, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 23 catches for 333 yards. Gillespie from the Mustangs leads the league in rushing with 557 yards.

An important game coming up in 5A Front Range this week will be when Mountain Range takes on Eric Rice's team. Bryan Davey's team is in first place, while the Lambkins are in third place.
