Softball Preview: Cypress Centurions vs. Villa Park Spartans
The Cypress Centurions will face off against the Villa Park Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cypress will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Tuesday, Cypress earned a 6-2 victory over California.
Delaney 'D.J.' Faus made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Makayla Bishop was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Sanaiyah 'Naya' Cleland also deserves some recognition as she stole her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Villa Park posted their closest win since March 5, 2024 on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Capistrano Valley, sneaking past 6-4.
Cypress' victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Villa Park, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
