Basketball Game Preview: Harlem Huskies vs. Freeport Pretzels

Two dominant guards in Mateo Perera and Kazion Morehead are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Harlem Huskies and the Freeport Pretzels will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest, having both just played. One thing working in Harlem's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.

On Tuesday, Harlem beat Dixon 65-54. The win was all the more spectacular given the Huskies' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Dukes & Duchesses are ranked 153rd).

Meanwhile, Freeport came up short against Hononegah on Tuesday and fell 78-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (61), the Pretzels still had to take the loss.

Harlem will have to contain Kal-El Sims as he made an impact in Freeport's last game. He went 8-for-12 on his way to 23 points. Andrew Seward was another key player, going 7-for-11 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Freeport dropped their record down to 13-18 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points over those games. As for Harlem, their victory bumped their record up to 11-18.

Harlem beat Freeport 64-56 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Will Harlem repeat their success, or does Freeport have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
