Baseball Recap: Mize Triumphs

Mize took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Clarkdale, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mize had just enough and edged out Clarkdale 3-2 on Thursday.

Mize got a great performance from Holder Mcalpin as he struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Mcalpin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Parker Himmel, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

Mize's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Clarkdale, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-4.

Coming up, Mize will venture away from home to take on Bay Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Clarkdale, they will host Leroy at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.7, the Bears 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
