Softball Game Preview: Gervais Cougars vs. Mohawk Indians

For the second straight game, Gervais will face off against Mohawk. The Cougars will host the Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Gervais has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Gervais managed to slip by Mohawk the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cougars lost 18-6 to the Indians on Tuesday.

For Mohawk's part, Miley Sherman was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Avery Bigbee was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

Mohawk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Gervais dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 7.3 runs this season. As for Mohawk, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
