Softball Game Preview: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. Suwannee Bulldogs

The Gainesville Hurricanes will head out on the road to challenge the Suwannee Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gainesville will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Gainesville barely beat Forest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Gainesville put the hurt on Forest with a sharp 10-0 victory on Wednesday. The contest marked the Hurricanes' most dominant win of the season so far.

McKenna O'Sullivan made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gainesville let Emma Barton and Braylin Cook run wild. Barton went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs, while Cook went 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. That's the most hits Barton has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Gillins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Gainesville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Suwannee had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison County on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1.

Gainesville now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Suwannee, their record now sits at 6-7.

Gainesville came up short against Suwannee in their previous matchup back in February, falling 5-2. Can Gainesville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
