The Woodford County Yellowjackets will venture away from home to square off against the Anderson County Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Anderson County will be up against a hot Woodford County squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Yellowjackets' pitcher stepped up to hand Spencer County a 15-0 shutout on Friday. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Yellowjackets yet this season.

Sophia Gannon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addie Bryant, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted over her last 12 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Norah Ashburn, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Woodford County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Anderson County made easy work of Shelby County on Tuesday and carried off a 15-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bearcats in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won five in a row.
Emma Stevens was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Ella Baum also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Anderson County's record is now 10-5. As for Woodford County, they now have a winning record of 8-7-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woodford County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Anderson County struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodford County might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Anderson County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
