Gulf Breeze and Escambia are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Gulf Breeze Dolphins will square off against the Escambia Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gulf Breeze will be strutting in after a win while Escambia will be coming in after a loss.
Gulf Breeze had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Booker T. Washington on Tuesday. Gulf Breeze's pitchers stepped up to hand Booker T. Washington a 10-0 shutout. The Dolphins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jake Hooten was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Roman Jackson was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. Tanner Owens also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Gulf Breeze was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Escambia came up short against Milton on Tuesday and fell 10-5.
Christian Stone made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taivyn Anderson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Gulf Breeze has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Escambia's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gulf Breeze hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Escambia struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
