Basketball Recap: Durand Falls Despite Big Games from Samantha Leydig and Taylor Carlson

While it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, Durand was not quite Caro's equal in the second half on Monday. They fell 52-45 to the Caro Tigers. The Railroaders have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Durand's loss came despite strong showings from Taylor Carlson and Samantha Leydig. Carlson posted ten points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Leydig put up 11 points. Carlson continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Durand smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Caro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brooklyn Osborn out in front who went 6-for-11 on her way to 18 points. The dominant performance also gave Osborn a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (75%). Another player making a difference was Normandy Geiger, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points and six rebounds.

Durand's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Caro, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6.

Durand wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-34 win against Clio on the 25th. As for Caro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-30 victory against Genesee on the 26th.
