Baseball Recap: St. John's Has No Trouble Against Woodland

While St. John put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Woodland. The Islanders were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Wolverines. Considering the Islanders have won four matchups by more than 12 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Will Shelton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Shelton was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, St. John's got a massive performance out of Antonio Hernandez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Hernandez has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Micah Davison, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3.

St. John's hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

St. John's has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Woodland, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John's will welcome Palmetto Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. John's is facing Palmetto Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Palmetto Christian Academy is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Woodland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Academic Magnet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
