Softball Recap: Alchesay Falcons vs. Show Low Cougars
Alchesay extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-16 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Show Low Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-0 last Tuesday.
As for Show Low, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 matches by six runs or more this season.
For Show Low's part, Rylee Wyatt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). Wyatt has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Tatum Townsend and Addisyn Clark did most of the damage at the plate: Townsend got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs, while Clark went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases Townsend has posted since back in March. Angelee Villa was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alchesay will face off against Snowflake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lobos have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Show Low, they will take on Holbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Cougars' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Roadrunners have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
