Basketball Recap: Sutter Huskies vs. Natomas Nighthawks

Sutter lost against Natomas back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Sutter Huskies lost 82-61 to the Natomas Nighthawks. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 198th).

Sutter's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sammy Sharma, who went 7-for-9 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds, and Izzy Bhatti, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 11 points and six boards. What's more, Sharma also posted two assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Trenton Harter, who earned nine points.

Natomas found their leader in sophomore Alfred Wilkins, who went 10-for-20 en route to 28 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for Wilkins. Aeron Wallace was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten boards.

Sutter's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Natomas, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season.

Looking ahead, Sutter is taking a road trip to square off against Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ripon Christian will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Sutter surely won't give up without a fight. Natomas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
