Basketball Recap: Pungo Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Pungo Christian Academy was the 77-69 winner over Lawrence Academy when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Pungo Christian Academy Raiders were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 64-63 to the Lawrence Academy Warriors. While the Raiders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 25-15 in the first quarter.

Lawrence Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nike Wiggins led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Wiggins' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carter Hoggard, who went 6 of 9 en route to 19 points.

Pungo Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Lawrence Academy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pungo Christian Academy will take on Mattamuskeet in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Pungo Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Lawrence Academy and First Flight will compete for holiday cheer at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Lawrence Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season.
