Basketball Recap: Asheboro Drops Highest Score of Season Against Uwharrie Charter Academy

Asheboro scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 36-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Blue Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while the Eagles are ranked 100th).

Despite the loss, Asheboro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adalynn Scherer dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards. That was a full 50% of Asheboro's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Cass, who had seven points.

Leading Uwharrie Charter Academy to victory were Naimah Al-Arif and Nevaeh Staples. Al-Arif earned 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Staples went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points in addition to six boards and three blocks. Staples is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Asheboro is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Asheboro wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 65-22 defeat against Southwestern Randolph on the 6th. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-10 victory against River Mill on the 6th.
