Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Saint Mary walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Cardinal Newman Cardinals with a sharp 3-0 victory on Wednesday. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on five straight.

While Saint Mary's won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-18, 25-20.

Kalaya Phung paced Saint Mary's offense, picking up 11 kills. Phung got some help from Isabella Garzo -Cuevas and her 20 assists. Kaitlyn Dennis controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Cardinal Newman lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Giana Tamayo, who had 11 digs.

Saint Mary's victory bumped their record up to 24-8. As for Cardinal Newman, they moved to 19-11 with that loss, which also ended their three-match winning streak.

Saint Mary's wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against University on the 8th. As for Cardinal Newman, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Salesian College Preparatory on the 8th.
