Softball Game Preview: Fayetteville Wolves vs. Wadley Bulldogs

The Fayetteville Wolves will square off against the Wadley Bulldogs at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Fayetteville will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Sylacauga, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wolves came out on top against the Aggies by a score of 5-2 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Wolves have beaten the Aggies on their field since March 11, 2023.

Lauren Cook spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lucy Epperson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Kendal Collier also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wadley). They were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over Loachapoka last Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Wadley got a massive performance out of Daizja Thomas, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sereptia Screws, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Fayetteville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wadley, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.

Fayetteville took their win against Wadley in their previous matchup last Wednesday by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
