Elk Grove's tournament run continued when they took on Central Valley on Saturday. The Thundering Herd put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 9-1 win.
Kaylee Buck was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izianah Castillo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since April 2nd. Lauren Anderson was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Monterey Trail's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 8-0 to Liberty, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Mustangs just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.
Elk Grove's record now sits at 14-10. As for Monterey Trail, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.
Monterey Trail's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elk Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Monterey Trail, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Elk Grove's hitters?
