Basketball Recap: Ninilchik Comes Up Short

If Ninilchik was feeling good fresh off their 87-64 takedown of Nanwalek last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ninilchik Wolverines took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Homer Mariners on Thursday. The Wolverines were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mariners earlier this season, when they won 72-58.

Despite the loss, Ninilchik still got an impressive performance from Kade McCorison, who dropped a double-double with 34 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 72.3% of Ninilchik's points, marking the 16th time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Max Russell was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Ninilchik smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Ninilchik's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Homer, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-9.

Ninilchik has already played their next match, a 56-50 win against Seward on the 7th. As for Homer, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-63 defeat against Bethel on the 7th.
