Basketball Game Preview: Etowah Eagles vs. Buford Wolves

The Etowah Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Buford Wolves on Saturday. One thing working in Etowah's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 16 contests.

Etowah is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Valdosta by a score of 61-53. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Wildcats are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Buford had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 78-56 margin over the Trojans. The Wolves pushed the score to 57-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.

Buford pushed their record up to 24-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points over those games. As for Etowah, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season.

Etowah and Buford were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but Etowah came up empty-handed after a 64-63 defeat. Can Etowah avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
