Softball Recap: Bishop Carroll Takes a Loss

Bishop Carroll extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-7 in the process. They lost 15-0 to the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers. If the Huskies were looking for revenge after losing 9-4 to the Mountaineers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Philipsburg-Osceola, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by ten runs or more this season.

For Philipsburg-Osceola's part, Alivia Bizzarri made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Bizzarri has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Philipsburg-Osceola let Macie Bush and Morgan Vaughn run wild. Bush went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Vaughn went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Emily Gustkey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Carroll will host Bishop McCort at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games the Crushers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, they will square off against Bellefonte at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mountaineers 3.2, the Raiders 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
