Softball Recap: Concord Academy Comes Up Short

Concord Academy came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat two weeks ago. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Gaston Christian by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for Concord Academy in their meetings with Gaston Christian: they've now lost three in a row.

Caisyn Berg put in work no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Carmean was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Concord Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Gaston Christian, the victory snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 2-6 record.

Looking ahead, Concord Academy will face off against Metrolina Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gaston Christian, they will take on Greater Cabarrus S at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
