Baseball Recap: Hughson Huskies vs. Golden Valley Cougars

Hughson had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-3 to make it eight. They came up short against the Golden Valley Cougars, falling 11-3. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Hughson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Lupercio, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Lupercio has brought in this season.

As for Golden Valley, their record is now 1-0. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28, 2025 (when they won 12-4).

On Golden Valley's side, Cody Peterson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Peterson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Euker, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hughson will square off against Woodland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Golden Valley, they will take on Franklin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
