Softball Recap: Columbia Central Beats Lumen Christi Catholic for Their Sixth Straight Win

Columbia Central put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against the Lumen Christi Catholic Titans by a score of 4-1. The Golden Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Titans, too.

Hailey Wetherby made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Wetherby wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Camden Knapp, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Columbia Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Lumen Christi Catholic, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia Central will host Vandercook Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Lumen Christi Catholic, they will welcome Hastings at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Saxons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.14 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
